”my roof light is not working?”…DON’T PANIC
Step by step……. Check list..If you do not have our AirGlide ™ taxi roof sign.
(1) Are the bulbs blown ? , and if you are using bulbs get rid of them, why ?, (Use LED lighting ),
well when a bulb blows the filament can stick together in the bulb .
This will cause the in-line power supply fuse to blow, ( Quality LEDs do not ), so now you could
have blown bulb/s and a blown fuse.
If you do not know where the fuses are, contact the person who installed your roof light and ask….
where is the fuse for my roof light ?, very simply you should have been told this when you got the
roof sign installed, if not …it begs the question has this roof sign been installed by a professional ?.
If no fuse protection has been installed at all, your car wiring could short and could cause a fire!. If
no fuse installed get one installed … Its standard industry practice to install fuses for third party
products, AKA roof lights.
(2) Ok you found the fuse, so check and see if the fuse is blown, if so get a couple of new fuses.
( SEE SAFETY SECTION FIRST ), BUT better think what caused the fuse to blow in the first place,
because as soon as you put one in …. it could just blow again.
So disconnect the roof sign, insert the fuse, if it blows as soon as you put it in…. you have got
problems, there is a short in the wiring or and the plug and or the meter or the roof light switch
and or relay. Better you jump to and read (5)
(3) Ok the fuse did not blow, now connect your roof light, if it lights up, great !, and if you notice
that instead of three bulbs working , there are two or less, where there were three working before,
the bulb probably caused the short when it popped. unplug your roof sign and replace the blown
bulb/s
(4) The fuse blew as soon as you connected the roof light, its probable that you have a short in the
roof sign plug and or the roof sign its self. for those who have a ingrained culture of always saying
“give better price” , well it seems you got what you paid for, and its called problems.
As they say buy cheap … and you end up buying twice, as its extremely rare thing this happens
with a CE certified roof sign, so go read (5).
(5) If your roof sign has bulbs, we suggest you get rid of them, get a good 60 module LED high
power lighting kit installed,( not one that you get from China on Ebay ), ours are made for taxi
usage in Europe by a European company, ring us and we will give you contact information for
one of our qualified sub agents, across Ireland who will if you like install the LED kit into the roof
sign. if you need a new connector plug or need the female roof light receiver replaced OR the roof
sign wiring replaced or soldered. And if you say ….“GIVE BETTER PRICE” , we put the phone down.
SAFETY :
(1) FUSES: if your existing roof light fuse is rated at 7amp, 10amp, 15amp, or anything above 2amp.
Change the fuse urgently to a 2amp fuse for fire safety, As nearly all the cars we see have
dangerously over rated fuses installed. We even had one car arrive with black smoke belching out
of the dash. and yes it turned out he was one of those “give better price” customers.
(2) The copper wiring should be shiny, if you notice that the bare wire is black, this is due to the
copper wire getting so hot that its burning the plastic insulation, get the cable replaced urgently.
